The Broncos Varsity team had a very strong showing against #10 ranked York in their second round Blackhawks Cup State Tournament game last night in Bensenville.

The Broncos scored first with a beautiful deflection from senior forward Tom Mulica. Later in the period, Sophomore right winger Parker Ritter snapped a quick wrist shot off a centering pass from Mike Brusa on the power-play to take a 2-0 lead.

York came on strong in the second period, cutting the lead to one goal with their own power-play tally off a rebound in the slot.  A few minutes later, Barrington responded. After an extended battle for a loose puck in front of York's goalie Jack Buckley, Senior forward Matt McVickers chipped home Barrington's third goal to extend it's lead back to two goals.

The third period had it's share of up and down rushes, big hits, and some fantastic saves at both ends of the rink. An incredible individual effort by senior defenseman Max Kunzmann saved a sure goal in a wide-open Barrington net as he dove across the crease and stopped the puck on the goal line with his stick. After tremendous effort and hard work killing off another York power play late in the third, Matt McVickers sealed the victory with his second of the night, an open net goal with just under 2 minutes left in the game.

The Quarter Finals game will be held on Wednesday, March 9th at 8:35pm at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville. The Broncos will play Benet.
